Class descriptions - This ain't your mama's workout
If you are looking for a butt kicking workout, Chix Boxing is for you! In a one hour class, you’ll sizzle your bootie through punches, kicks, toning exercises and abs in a tough, total body workout. This martial arts based workout can be done without contact or if you feel the need to beat something up, there are bags available. If using the bags, you will need to bring some gloves.
Circuit Shock is a popular class and targets aerobic fitness and muscular endurance simultaneously. Cardiovascular and weight training exercises are alternated in about 3 minute intervals, and although it is fast paced and energetic, the intensity can be modified for beginners. This class is designed to target the entire body. Bring some gloves if you have them as punching bags are often used.
Generally, Hot Yoga (or Bikram Yoga) is performed in 105 degree heat and 40% humidity. Our heaters only get to about 80-90 degrees, but it's hot enough to get a great sweat! The class is designed for beginners as well as for those students who have a regular practice. Every class is open to first time students. The postures are done in the safe environment of a heated room so that deep penetration can relieve muscle resistance without risking injury. Because of its intensity and potential to cause heat-related illness, hot yoga isn't for everyone. Be sure you check with your doctor before trying hot yoga if you have any health concerns. If you have no health concerns and you want to try a hot yoga class, be sure to drink plenty of water, and stop if you feel dizzy, lightheaded or sick in any way.
Our KaPOW! workout is a special class held on holidays. (Generally all other classes are cancelled that day.) It's 2 hours of serious adrenaline pumping fitness and includes a little of everything! Look for our KaPOWS on traditional holidays or holiday eves. They are always free and anyone is welcome!
Sculpt 'n Burn
Sculpt 'n Burn is a muscle-toning class combined with intense bursts of cardio. This class uses weighted bars, exercise bands, and/or dumbbells as well as steps and anything else that the instructor thinks might help you get a better workout! You perform traditional weight training moves as well as plyometrics and core isolations. It can be modifed for beginners though it is geared toward the sweat addicts. All of the equipment is provided. Just bring a water bottle!
Step aerobics is a choreographed routine of stepping up and down on a rectangular platform. This class also combines step aerobics with body sculpting. No need to bring anything but a water bottle and smile.
U-Jam Fitness® is an athletic hip-hop dance fitness workout that combines dance and high energy music for a workout that is bound to get your heart rate up, your body moving, and make you work up a sweat -- all while having FUN!
